What We Do

Australian Peace Council Objectives

The Council shall pursue the following objectives and initiatives (not limited to the following):

Education and Knowledge Development

• Develop and deliver educational and peacebuilding resources. Develop ethical and intellectual frameworks and programs that support peacebuilding and coexistence, such as global citizenship education

• Monitor emerging social challenges and peace-related trends

• Identify emerging opportunities to promote peace, harmony and social cohesion

• Produce policy recommendations and strategic advice

• Inform and influence public discourse through publications, briefings, events, and public forums

Young People Empowerment

• Foster positive use of social media

• Empower youth, emerging leaders, and community stakeholders to participate in peacebuilding processes. The United Nations is actively promoting intergenerational co-leadership to address complex global challenges by bridging the gap between seasoned decision-makers and younger generations. This can also take the form of interfaith youth leadership and youth mentorship

Peace-building Efforts

• Foster peace and security.

• Contribute to the prevention of conflict, extremism, discrimination, and social exclusion.

• Contribute to local, regional and international peacebuilding efforts and the advancement of human security.

• Foster activism, nonviolence and civic action.  

Promotion of Social Cohesion

• Strengthen social cohesion, inclusion and community resilience and trust within Australia’s           multicultural society

• Promoting interfaith, intercultural and intracommunity understanding, dialogue and cooperation. Change biased and sensational narratives of extremism and racism into narratives of peace, tolerance, inclusion, and mutual respect

• Foster partnerships with academic institutions, civil society organisations, faith communities, government agencies, and international organisations

• Support the work of the United Nations

• Foster mental wellbeing and a sense of belonging

• Foster sustainable and ecologically just development

Australian families are becoming increasingly disconnected from previous generations, risking the loss of something invaluable — the accumulated wisdom of those who came before us. We must seek common ground and explore how, together, we can grow stronger. By creating spaces that invite authenticity and honest storytelling, we can bridge divides and forge deeper human connections and wisdom.
